MAYA GIRI, AN ECD TEACHER TURNS OUT TO BE A CHAMPION FOR CHILDREN

“This year, we have 17 children in Lakshmi ECD center ranging from 3-5 years of age. These children belong to disadvantaged families. They come to school regularly and i’m very happy to support these children”, says Maya Giri, an ECD teacher of SWAN-supported Lakshmi ECD Center in Katari Municipality, Udayapur.

Maya was always concerned about the safety and well-being of the children attending the Lakshmi ECD center. Since SWAN helped in the renovation and maintenance of the ECD center, school perimeter fencing and installed handwashing station, Maya explains. “Therefore, I’m now focusing on the quality care, educational and recreational activities in order to help them grow and flourish.”

“Most importantly, the training provided by SWAN helped me to play the role of an ECD teacher effectively as well as advocate for children’s rights and development,” claimed Maya. “Investment in early childhood education is far from our capacity.  Many thanks to SWAN intervention”

Maya has been recognized as a champion for children in her community.  She also conducts timely meetings with parents and community leaders to improve the overall management and operation of ECD center.
