SWAN believes that access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is a fundamental human right and essential for a healthy and dignified life. However, 3.5 million people do not have access to basic water services and 10.8 million people in Nepal do not have access to improved sanitation (UNICEF Nepal). Open defecation is still practiced by 16 per cent of the population (NDHS).
Therefore, our goal is to ensure access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools, health facilities and communities and during emergencies.
OUR APPROACH
-Improving access to clean water, hygiene and sanitation in schools, health facilities and communities.
-Promoting hygiene and sanitation practices through education and awareness.
-Creating a partnership with local government to co-invest in infrastructures: handwashing stations, proper toilets and water supply systems.
Creating healthier, and more resilient communities.
