Empowering Marginalized Women through Livelihoods Project begins in Katari Municipality, Udayapur
May 5, 2024, Udayapur – We are pleased to announce the launch of the “Empowering Marginalized Women through Livelihoods” project in Katari Municipality, Ward no – 5, Tallo Khaireni, Udayapur. The targeted community is predominantly inhabited by the marginalized groups with the majority belonging to the endangered indigenous Danuwar tribe. Other inhabitants are Majhis, Brahamins and Dalit. Some of the challenges faced by the community are dependence of women on subsistence farming, limited access to nutrition and economic opportunities and poor living standards. Hence, this project is conceptualized as a small- scale project to address the fundamental needs such as ensuring food security, improving financial stability at household level, reducing migration pressures, and fostering women empowerment. The primary objective of the project is to empower marginalized women by providing them with skills and productivity income-base opportunities.
SWAN has tailored major livelihoods interventions such as tailoring training, financial literacy workshops, hybrid goat raising support, organic farming, trainings and essential resource support to meet the specific needs and context of the targeted community. SWAN will also promote local farmers market to showcase and sold the local products. This project will not only benefit over 200 women but also break the cycle of poverty and marginalization.
