Maternal and Child Health Project begins in Achham and Bajura Districts

 

Kathmandu, 1 January 2024 – Following the completion of a baseline survey, SWAN begins its Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Project in Achham and Bajura, which lies in the far-western province, for the next two years. This project is aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality deaths rate throughout remote communities.

With the funding of Global Envirotech Initiative (GEI) USA, SWAN will implement maternal and child health project in Ramroshan and Chaurpati Rural Municipalities in Achham and Buddhinanda Municipality, Swamikartik, and Jagannath Rural Municipalities in Bajura. Major interventions include strengthening birthing centers with logistics support, training to health workers and Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), and providing leadership skills to Health Facility Management Committee (HFOMC) and working closely with the local government. Furthermore, Local government shows their willingness to support fully to the project in order to improve maternal and child health care outcomes in their region.

SWAN had previously implemented the “Maternal and Child Health” (MCH) project in Humla from 2018 to 2023 with the funding support of SWAN Deutschland e.V, Germany. Similarly, SWAN implemented a five-year (2010-2015) MCH project in Baglung with the support of One Heart Worldwide, USA.
