SWAN Nepal turns 30
28 September 2024, Kathmandu – SWAN celebrated its 30th anniversary and held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today on 28 September 2024 at Hotel Manaslu, Kathmandu. The event saw the attendance of 47 people including executive board members, general members, special guests, local stakeholders, development partners, and friends.
The inaugural session showcased the highlights of the 30th anniversary celebration, while the closed session focused on the standard procedures of the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The event began by paying tribute to SWAN patrons Klaus Dyckhoff, and founding members Poorna Singh Khatri, and Damber Kumar Karki whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for SWAN’s enduring mission in bringing positive change to remote communities. Ms. Kalpana Karki, Programme Director of SWAN welcomed the guests present at the 30th anniversary celebration.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation by the Founder Chairperson of SWAN, Mr Krishna Karki who reflected SWAN’s rich history, milestone achievements, and focused on the commitment to sustainable development and humanity. Mr. Karki also acknowledged the contribution of everyone for being a part of SWAN’s mission.
On the momentous occasion of SWAN, the SWAN Executive Board decided to award seven individuals who have contributed to SWAN’s mission. They include Sakas GC, Former Programme Manager, Raju Tuladhar, Former Exective Director, Chairman and now secretary, Shyam Kumar Majhi, Field Coordinator, Udayapur, Dhurba Shrestha, Former Programme Manager, Katari Municipality, Bernard Fassl (USA), health adviser to SWAN and Bernard Storm, a donor from Germany. At the event, Mr. Sakas G.C., a former SWAN Programme Manager, fondly recalled his 19 years of dedicated service, empowering communities through the SWAN’s initiatives.
The chief guest, Mr. Uttam Bhattarai, member of Rotary club of Kathmandu congratulated SWAN for its 30 years of service to humanity. Mr. Bhattarai stated, “I’m very much impressed with SWAN’s life-changing projects and its dedication to support rural people and communities from places such as Humla, Achham, and Bajura. “Together, we can improve the health outcomes in remote areas, he said.”
In the closed session of the 30th AGM, the project activities and audit report for fiscal year 2080/81 were reviewed, approved, and endorsed. Likewise, the project activities and budget for FY 2081/82 were approved and endorsed by the 30th AGM.
