So far, SWAN conducted few health camps in a bid to support the disadvantaged people of the remote communities across Nepal. However, the strategic planning (2022-2026) has guided us to organize more health camps in the coming days to help people deprived of basic health facilities in the needy areas. In 2023, we have a plan to conduct a health camp in the Chepang Community of Chitwan District.

Humla is one of the poorest & most remote districts in Nepal. The area is still facing major challenges in education, infrastructure & health. In November, SWAN conducted a three-day free health check-up camp including anemia screening in Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla. A total of two doctors; Dr. Prakash Karki, and Dr. Dipendra Timilsina saw 549 patients (75% women) during the camp. At the camp, there were also 18 local volunteers, including Mr. Joan-Lukas Kümpers from Germany. Also, anemia screening was done among 149 patients. A review meeting was organized to inform the key stakeholders regarding the numbers of different cases, and the poor hygiene and nutritional status of the people. Likewise, doctors also highlighted the need of eye screening and surgical camp, uterine prolapse screening and hysteroscopy camp in that area.
The main purpose of the health-camp was to provide free consultation, treatment, diagnosis, and referral in a bid to benefit the disadvantaged people of the remote community who are even deprived of basic medical services. Besides helping & treating a number of patients, this Health Camp has brought attention to the existence of the health facility in Sarkegad and to the topic of basic hygiene and health as preventative measures for sickness.
(Main highlight of the health-camp was to bring 10 years old *Jiya with Rheumatic heart disease to the Gangalal Cardiac Hospital in Kathmandu for a comprehensive treatment. She received the utmost care and assistance during the procedure. She left the hospital after 57 days and went home to her family in Humla.) Learn More.
