Building Capacity of Early Childhood Development (ECD) Teachers in Humla
May 14, 2026, HUMLA – On May 13–14, SWAN Nepal conducted a two-day teacher training under the Nepali academic year 2083 in Sarkegad Rural Municipality, Humla. The training brought together 15 ECD teachers from 8 Early Childhood Development centers of community schools to strengthen the foundation of early learning in one of Nepal’s most remote regionbs.
The training was designed to equip teachers with practical, evidence-based strategies that directly improve learning outcomes for young children. With a strong focus on child-centred pedagogy, participants explored approaches that make classrooms more engaging, inclusive, and joyful environments for early learners.
Key highlights of the training:
• Strengthening curriculum delivery for improved early learning outcomes across all participating centres
• Enhancing positive behavior management for supportive and nurturing classroom environments
• Promoting child-centered and play-based learning approaches that respects children’s natural development.
Practical Classroom Strategies Introduced:
Teachers were oriented on a set of structured yet creative daily practices to make every hour in the classroom purposeful and engaging for young learners.
• Morning circle time – building community and routines at the start of each day
• Art and creative activities – fostering expression, fine motor skills, and imagination
• Structured lesson planning – ensuring clear learning goals and organized delivery
• Effective homework practices – connecting classroom learning with home environments
• Positive classroom management techniques – reducing disruption while building confidence and trust
Interactive Teaching Methods:
Beyong classroom routines, teachers were introduced to dynamic, participation-driven instructional techniques that actively involve students in their own learning.

Learning Resources Distributed:
As part of the project, lesson plans and tailored worksheets were distributed to 218 children across participating schools. These materials aim to strengthen daily classroom learning and ensure that the skills and strategies introduced during the training are effectively translated into consistent, quality education for every child.
The active participation of representatives from Sarkegad Rural Municipality reaffirmed a shared commitment to improving access to quality early childhood education in remote and underserved communities. This engagement with the local government demonstrates an effective, impact-based model for ensuring sustainable outcomes in Humla.
