SWAN Partners with CSN & Katari Municipality to Transform 11 Schools in Katari, Udayapur

In March, SWAN, CSN, and Katari Municipality entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement the Learning Enrichment and Achievement Program (LEAP) in 11 community schools across Katari Municipality, Udayapur. This partnership will continue for three years, from Nepali academic year 2083 to academic year 2085 (2026-2029).

The agreement was signed at the Municipality Office in the presence of key stakeholders, including Mr. Ramchandra Shrestha, Mayor of Katari Municipality; Ms. Kalpana Karki, Programme Director of SWAN; and Mr. Rajan Maharjan, Director of CSN. The event was also attended by the Chief Administrative Officer, representatives from the Education Department, and principals from the 11 schools of Katari Municipality, Udayapur. During the event, CSN provided an orientation on LEAP program to all participating schools.

The LEAP program focuses on three core components:

-Teacher training to strengthen classroom delivery

-Structured lesson plans aligned with the government curriculum

-Student worksheets for Nursery to Grade 3

In addition, the program includes timely monitoring of schools, regular coaching for teachers, and year-end Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) assessments to track student progress and measure the effectiveness of LEAP.

By promoting interactive and engaging teaching methods, LEAP aims to foster active participation among both students and teachers, creating more effective and joyful learning environments.

“Over the past two years, SWAN and CSN have transformed five schools—bringing joy to learning, boosting teacher ‘skills and confidence, and inspiring children to participate in classrooms. Seeing the positive impact of LEAP program – Katari Municipality has joined hands to expand the program to 11 schools, ensuring that many more children can experience the power of quality education.”

 Mr. Rajan Thapa

Chief Administrative Officer,

Katari Municipality, Udayapur

“We are excited to scale the LEAP program across Katari Municipality, alongside our ongoing efforts in school construction, renovation and maintenance, WASH initiatives, and teacher support in community schools- ensuring quality education for marginalized children.”

Kalpana Karki

Programme Director, SWAN
