Livelihood Centres

SWAN strongly believes in uplifting socio-economic and cultural aspirations of communities. It opens doors for self sustainability through livelihood centres which serve as training, social entrepreneurship and ecotourism units.

Tourists led by travel-to-nature Asia with SWAN-supported women’s group in Baglung

Ecotourism – It promotes cultural exchange and sustainable development through ecologically sensitive homestays, treks and various community building activities in the Himalayas for tourists.

SWAN in partnership with travel-to-nature Asia and Dyckhoff-Karki Himalayan Treks & Expedition P. Ltd. has taken up the responsibility of helping tourists reach our project areas. Community treks such as these helped render direct and indirect support to development and humanitarian projects of SWAN. Besides immersing themselves in the local culture and exploring the lifestyles of the rural villages in Nepal, many tourists, after seeing the impact made by SWAN have also shown interest in our core programs while also garnering attention of potential donors. This project has thus become a medium in helping us find new donors, create jobs at the local level and raise awareness among foreigners and locals about tourist destinations and conservation of biodiversity.

Trainings – These are essential for empowering women and other community individuals. They fuel all income-generating activities such as livestock development, organic farming, handicrafts and tailoring.

Social Entrepreneurship – These centres also serve as business units providing a platform for communities to display and sell produce, distribute benefits and discuss and share ideas to improve existing programs or venture into new livelihoods.
