SWAN is a nonprofit organization working in remote and underserved communities across Nepal. Since 1994, we have been improving lives through education, health, livelihoods, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), gender equality and social inclusion, and humanitarian assistance.
We do not see investment in health, education, WASH, and livelihoods as an either/or proposition. These fundamental human rights are interconnected, and lasting development happens when we invest in them together. Every community could benefit from improvements in these areas, but in the communities where we work, a relatively small investment can have major impact in the lives of hundreds or thousands of women and children.
We believe that every child deserves a quality education, healthy life, clean water and no matter the situation they were born into, but the truth is that in many parts of Nepal especially in rural communities—many children are still denied this basic human right.

Travel can change lives—not just yours, but the lives of the communities you visit. Through our partnership with Travel to Nature Asia, visitors experience SWAN’s work firsthand in remote communities across Nepal. Many of our long-term supporters first visited as travelers and chose to stay involved after witnessing the impact. Your journey can become part of a lasting story of positive change.
