First Baby Delivered In Namkha Rural Municipality, Humla

Humla, 17 January, 2018 – SWAN feels privileged to share the exciting good news of our Maternal and Child Health Project in Upper Humla. After the intervention of the SWAN’s Maternal and Child Health Project in Humla, we have been able to encourage a woman to deliver a healthy baby in the Kermi Health Facility of the Namkha Rural Municipality. We are also very proud of a motivated Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Garmu Lama, who helped in the safe delivery for the very first time in the SWAN supported Kermi Health Facility of the Namkha Rural Municipality on 17th January. Mrs. Lama was provided with the Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA) training and advanced maternal and neonatal health care training including case management skills.

Our Project Coordinator Sushila Shah said, ‘delivering a baby in the health facility for the first time is already a milestone for the people of the Namkha Rural Municipality – this successful case will attract pregnant women to the newly strengthened birthing centers which are remotely situated resulting to save the lives of women and newborns.’

In the first phase of the project, SWAN strengthened the 3 birthing centers, provided Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs) training for the 4 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives and additional case management skills of maternal and neonatal emergencies trainings including strengthening treatment and referral mechanism to the 14 health workers of the Namkha Rural Municipality.

The seeds of change have started sowing. Thanks to our donors for supporting our life-saving project.
