Goat Raising and Organic Farming

Goat Raising Programme

SWAN supports goat-raising programmes in remote communities to help rural women become financially independent, develop their leadership and self-esteem. Over the years, we supported this activity in Parbat and Baglung district. Currently, we are helping women’s group to rear goats in Katari Municipality, Udayapur.

The women groups rear goats for meat, manure and money (3m). Read more.

With the help and support of our partners, we intend to extend and initiate rearing programs of various other livestock. Support new projects…..

Organic Farming

SWAN supports income generation activities like ginger plantations and off-seasonal vegetable farming while also encouraging women’s groups to use organic practices. Currently, we’re doing off-seasonal vegetable farming in Katari Municipality, Udayapur, Ramaroshan Rural Municipality in Achham and Budinanda Rural Municipality in Bajura, benefitting 100+ women by increasing their income, strengthening food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices.

In Parbat and Baglung, as many as 8,000 women have been involved in off-seasonal farming and learned alternative farming skills. As a result, they have enhanced their household income and improved their livelihoods.

“Off-seasonal vegetable farming has enabled us to generate income at our doors. I have also realized the potential of growing a variety of vegetables in our own farm while it also gives a high return. And knowing that my work contributes to lessen the market dependency of the local people on vegetables gives me immense satisfaction.”

Both projects has improved the quality of life of disadvantaged women as well as developed their leadership skills.

In the coming of days, we wish to introduce more farming options for growing medicinal plants, herbs, spices, fruits and other vegetables. Support new projects…..
